Update on the Garden

It’s been a while since we last posted and a lot has happened in the garden.

The growing area on the lowest level of the garden was covered for a long time in winter while the Growers concentrated on clearing the ornamental area.

making beds

As the seasons have changed, the focus has shifted to growing: Making new beds, prepping existing ones and cleaning the greenhouse, growing seedlings, sowing and planting.

Every bed is now full and there are new seedlings on the way which will be planted after harvesting the first crop.

We are currently growing:

In the main veg patch and other areas: 2 varieties of main crop potato, mixed onion sets, mangetout, 2 varieties of beetroot, rainbow chard, celery, 3 varieties of kale, broccoli, 3 varieties of courgette, 3 varieties of runner beans, 6 varieties of squash, 3 varieties of amaranth, radish, oriental mixed salad leaves.

In the greenhouse: 3 varieties of basil, chillies, aubergines, 2 varieties of cucumber, several varieties of tomatoes including red cherry, beefsteak, plum and coloured varieties including purple, yellow and orange.

We’ve also started on the fruit-growing area with 3 gooseberry bushes.
